appearance
Standing at 5’5” Jack would like you all to know he’s still growing, he most certainly hasn’t hit his fully height at the age of sixteen. Besides the giant sword, Arbitrator, he carries on his back, there isn’t too much that would differentiate him in the middle of a crowd... oh and don’t you dare say his outfit is lame. His sister spent all night finishing it for him to wear to the Knight’s Trials... though there might be a few too many pockets and sincerely what is with the question marks? Also yes, his hair is always messy, he doesn’t bother to brush it most the time after rolling out of bed. Sorry he doesn’t stand out too much, he happens to like his nice brown bed hair and his brown eyes, mean, he and his sister actually look related that way. He normally wears armor given his profession, but he hadn’t exactly planned being sucked into another dimension. Jack is notably thin as a rail due to his status of errand boy and inability to sit still for long spans of time unless he’s sleeping. He still hasn’t fully matured... both physically and mentally, mean he still has some of his baby fat.
personality
Jack is a simple county boy, he doesn’t like complex problems let alone dealing with them. No muss, no fuss. If he thinks there is a simple solution, odds are he’ll charge at it without thinking about it much. It is true, he doesn’t rely much on his brain... he doesn’t plan much ahead of time and just makes it up as he goes, which he has gotten extremely good at. Planning just isn’t his forte and much of his decision making capabilities is based on his gut instinct. Right or wrong, he follows his gut... and is extremely impulsive, which gets him into trouble more often than not. Don’t get him wrong, he wants to do right by people, but he has a sincere problem with leaping into life’s problems without any foresight. He just isn’t the type to sit around while stuff is going on around him... which leads to some very questionable decisions. According to his sister, he must have been born under a lucky star or something as he more or less habitually goes through life by flying by the seat of his pants. It might be more accurate to say that a great deal of Jack’s life choice stem from his impatience and overabundance of energy... the latter of which tends to drive others around him up the wall. He is easily excitable, which is good, though at times he is clearly over eager and builds up his expectations a bit too much... dragging everyone around him unwittingly into his enthusiasm. The truth is that he’s just impatient to prove himself... as the son of the Dragon Slayer, he has been living in his father’s shadow for most of his life. Instead of hey, here is Cairn’s son, he really just wants to hear, hey, that is Jack Russell, it is a pretty simple wish.
Strangely, it isn’t because of his father’s legacy that he tends to act conceited. It is true, he might not have much basis for his exaggerated sense of self-importance... but, it is because he is determined to show that he isn’t Cairn, that he has the potential to be someone even better than his father. He barely knew the man. It isn’t so much that he’s embarrassed, just, he knows he can be better than his old man. So leave his daddy, er dad out of the whole mess.
That and he needs a crash course in manners, which he does possess, but, few people give Jack the time of day so he doesn’t give them the time of day, hah! Cocky as he is, Jack is a nobody in the grand scheme of things. His only notable quality in society is that he’s the son of the Dragon Slayer and yeah, no, he isn’t going to throw the old man under the bus, but, it would be nice to be you know acknowledged...? Though that doesn’t excuse his behavior, that reckless confidence is what forces him to keep going... even if it isn’t wholly earned. It isn’t exactly bravado, Jack is brave... in part because he doesn’t usually understand the full ramifications, but mostly because he refuses to back down especially when he thinks someone is swinging around their name or their money. It is pretty hypocritical of him considering how he wound up in the knights, but, his respect is something to be earned, you have to be worthy of it. If you’re some old wino with a few stripes, don’t expect him to give you any special treatment... actually he’ll likely just make fun of you. It isn’t hard, to earn his respect in theory, just... be yourself? Don’t ignore him? Don’t call him an idiot? Pretty basic stuff here, though he has been known to make snap judgements based on first impressions. It helps if you’re strong, he respects strength and is really just starting to understand what this true strength is all about. He is an extremely stubborn teenager, which often works against him though he refuses to just lie down and die when his friends are in trouble... one of his more admirable qualities. Amazingly enough, he does tend to learn from his mistakes, if only because he doesn’t just make small ones... usually they’re pretty big. Hey as long as someone isn’t dead, just maybe he can do better or make it right in someway going forward. He is an eternal optimist... even if he does sometimes kick people he doesn’t like in the shins. Alright, he’s a rebellious optimist with a mean mischievous streak. He fits right in with Theater Vancoor if only because of his general brash, outspoken, and notably dramatic behavior he displays, emphasis on the Theater part. Really, he chafes at orders from self-important bimbos, he wasn’t cut out for the Knights and they don’t really appreciate his “snarky sass”. That and his carefree attitude nearly got him killed, a few times.
Jack more or less moves to his own beat... he has learned how to fend for himself and even though sometimes slacks off, will almost always find a way to move forward. However, independent he might be... there is one problem, well one more problem other than him picking fights for the fun of it.
Hailing from the middle of nowhere, he is, unsurprisingly, naïve about the world around him, he has certain assumptions about how it should and does work... he isn’t always right. As a result he’s surprisingly gullible and unfortunately because he is just a punk ass kid, he doesn’t get answers even if he asks. Naïve is the better word, yet, in the world he lives in, it actually has worked in his favor. Unlike most humans of Tottatus, he is actually... rather open minded, he doesn’t fear or otherwise hate the other fairy races and he is willing to learn. Except orcs. Orcs are monsters. Jack is still trying to figure out who Jack is, he is still growing upward and inwardly. While Jack has been called an idiot... well actually there is a case that could be made there, but, this “idiot” is more so... unlearned. Yes, he can read and write, but he has problems grasping the concept of subtlety...in all forms though he has gotten slightly better with dealing with other people. What he lacks in a formal education, he makes up for with a strong sense of common sense and curiosity... as long as you aren’t lording over him your oh so vaunted wisdom. And as long as it doesn’t require a lot of reading, he has difficultly staying one place for long. He is also pretty dense, though to his credit, he actually can be surprisingly intuitive... the problem is that Jack can be pretty self-centered. To say that Jack is rough around the edges is an understatement and living in the capital may have warped his understanding of friendship a bit, but... he takes care of his friends, whomever they might be, even if they are thieves or... live in the sewer. He is a bit of a goof, but he isn’t the only immature weirdo in Radiata.
Honestly, his greatest fear is losing the few friends he has made. True friends, not just the ones that he’s done favors for and then they call him a friend. He can be surprisingly loyal, seeing these true friends as his family and is willing to go to great lengths to protect them. His dream is obviously to become stronger. No duh, haven’t you been paying attention? According to Caesar, he doesn’t actually seem to be afraid of death or rather his death... then again, Jack might just be a true idiot. Also, he is a mercenary, the Theater owns him sort of. It isn’t a bad deal, but if he doesn’t do his job, he doesn’t get paid, and he doesn’t eat... the last of which is very important to him. The eating part, he isn’t that dumb to think that he can live as a good Samaritan... and besides then he’d have to hold his tongue.
background
(Since there is legitimately no “Canon” ending, I’ve taken Jack from the part where the game diverges and also been pulling a bit from the mostly untranslated manga which expanded on the game. Anything that isn’t strictly canon is kind of not here.)
Jack’s life has been one for the history books....
No, actually he’s had a pretty ordinary life as a sixteen year old... he isn’t even all that notable in the grand scheme of things.
Jack grew up in the middle of nowhere in a small town... that could barely be called a town at all. In fact, Solieu Village actually only has two families that happen to live there with the slightly larger Tria village north of them... got plenty of pig chasing shenanigans in early. Adele raised a young five year old Jack on her own... and had been his primary caretaker since... well forever, both of them becoming full fledge orphans after their father, Cairn Russell was murdered by his best friend in the Radiata Knights. Despite coming from nothing, Cairn Russell was one of the strongest knights the Kingdom possessed and the first human to slay a dragon, killing the rampaging water dragon that had threatened human civilization. He was hailed as a hero, and growing up Jack would hear snippets about his father though was far too young to really understand the shadow he’s grown up in. Fame wasn’t enough to feed a family. It should come as absolutely no surprise that both siblings wound up strong and independent, one perhaps a bit too... independent. Having been raised in part on tales about his own father...Jack likewise developed an interest in joining the Radiata Knights like his father before him... and likely his sister even before him though. Ever since he announced his intention at the age of fifteen, along with the desire to surpass his father, nothing against the old man, Adele trained him in the use of a sword. All her hard work nearly amounted to of course nothing as Jack nearly slept in the morning of the Knight’s Trial... a contest of skill which determined the next candidate to become a Radiata Knight.
She never expected him to pass the trial, and she was right to do so... but it wasn’t as if she could actually stop her brother from trying, only soften the blow. Giving him Arbitrator as a good luck charm, she had been absolutely right.
Jack did not pass the trial. The Knight’s Trial was more... tournament than a display. It wasn’t exactly fair. His first opponent was Ridley Silverlake, a young woman from the prestigious Silvelaker family who had more or less trained from birth to become a knight. She was expected to become a knight. He lost against her in the first round. How was that fair... when the rest of them, this sorry lot had access to tutors, to trainers, even to decent equipment? Of course she was going to win. It might have been a humbling lesson for Jack... if he wasn’t the son of Cairn Russell the Dragonslayer. The Knight Commander happened to be watching the selection trials, and with him in possession of Arbitrator... well it was hard not for the knight commander to not know who Jack was. There was an exception made. Jack was taken on as a knight in training despite losing in the first round... because of his “potential”, but the truth was Lord Larks had selected Jack simply because of his father’s legacy... and because he hoped to recreate one of the strongest Knight Brigades in the history of Radiata. Gawain Rothschild and Cairn Russell... had been a very strong, powerful duo... it was too bad that Gawain had murdered Cairn. The problem was... Jack believed it, that he had potential and besides it was better than walking home to tell Adele that he had failed the Knight’s Trial. He had become a knight... sort of? Well a knight in training, but it wasn’t long before the first cracks started to appear even before the official initiation of the Rose Cochon Brigade. He got along with Nina, another Knight in training. They were sort of friends even, and after getting smacked in the face with an axe... just maybe he had to improve a bit. Besides, why wouldn’t he be her friend, the girl apparently had none... maybe he wasn’t the only one getting the cold shoulder? Except it was clear why he was here to most other residents of the castle, he had gotten in solely on his name. They had no reason to respect him, in fact, a certain lady Knight called Natalie made it clear that he should be utterly ashamed of himself that if he had any honor he should just quit when she made it crystal clear exactly why he was here.
But why should he? Mean, why would he be embarrassed of his dad, as far as he could tell, the dude was pretty great. Oh okay, maybe he wasn’t humble, but Jack did intend on becoming known not as the son of Cairn, but as Jack Russell. Besides... hadn’t Ridley gotten into the knights because she was a Silverlake? Maybe, she didn’t use her name, but she had every advantage given to her. And besides Lord Larks said he was looking forward to his future self, and why wouldn’t he believe him?
Hell, might he add that Ridley? She already had her own room in the castle, and it was cushier than the captain’s. Geez how many people was he going to have to beat before he got some respect. Even with the initiation, Ridely refused to talk to him, even though technically they both were accepted into the same brigade. Ganz, their captain was pretty cool though. Even if he nearly pinched off his cheek trying to get a reaction from ice woman. Oh fine, one day he’d just have to show her... he’d beat her too if that was what it took, would surpass her. The beginning days of a knight... well he was somehow expecting more... rather than guarding a cart and a Dwarf carrying metal goods. Or had a really different idea of what an important mission happened to be. Still apparently Knights in the same brigade should be as family... though how was he supposed to be family with Ridley? Yeah, maybe he was late... but, for the most part they got to the Valley of Earth just fine. Okay, so when the Captain brought up the possibility of Orcs and mentioned how strong they were, how could anyone blame him for wanting to meet one in person? Apparently the whole brigade did and thought he was an idiot. Including Clive, the member of the Olacion Order that they got stuck with... one of the guilds in the city. Who was an idiot himself, all he did was say yup the entire time. The dwarves were really cool though, they seemed to know the captain’s dad though he seemed to be really embarrassed about the whole matter. The delivery went off for the most part without a hitch.
Other than the Dwarf and the goat pulling the wagon being held as a hostage by a goblin trio. It wasn’t as if the goblin trio was particularly strong, they just got the jump on them. It wasn’t even all that dangerous, the goblins attacked each other after losing the negotiating game of categories.
The next mission though... well... he was kicked out of the Radiata Knights because he apparently violated a part of the charter... him and the captain both. They had managed to get a runner to the City of Flowers courtesy of Lord Nogiera of the Dark Elves to open up trade discussions with the one race that hated humanity the most and... he started to maybe understand Ridley a bit more, hey he even nearly caught up with her if their sparring session was anything to go by. She wasn’t so bad. Not that she knocked off the quips and the barbs she tossed his way. Except, Blood Orcs attacked the light elf runner. One of which the Rose Cochon brigade wound up fighting and their weapons did absolutely nothing against the fairy monstrosity. Yeah, he got his wish. Ridley nearly lost her life because of him. It was probably wrong to try to protect her, she wasn’t weak he knew that, but, getting pummeled wasn’t anything new for him. He didn’t see her as the comrade that she had grown to be, and bam. One good blow. She was dying, nearly dead all because he had sort of maybe pissed her off by trying to protect her. Without the transpiration ritual performed by Lord Nogiera, well... Ridley would have died and like hell he was going to hand her off to some weirdo claiming to be her fiancé. He wasn’t the best knight, no, but, he could carry his weight, no, he carried both of them back at least to do something. Him and the captain though were dismissed, Ridley was nobility, her father was the Lord Chamberlain. It was either they were dismissed or Lord Larks would have had to step down, but the knight commander had one last bit of advice in the form of a Theater Vancoor poster.
So they went off to join the Warrior’s guild, to join Theater Vancoor. Life continued on, and was much more hectic than the orderly life of the Radiata Knights.
... Oh wait you wanted to know more?
powers
Fighting Style: Knight Commander Larks might have used the excuse that he was impressed with Jack’s potential to get the son of Cairn into the Knights... but he wasn’t wrong. Though he is young, Jack shows a great deal of martial potential... however it is just that... potential. Potential still needs to be shaped. Having been taught by his sister fencing for only a year, the amount of progress he’s made is absolutely astonishing, but he isn’t an experienced fighter. Actually he is still very much a student, just a very driven and boastful student determined to make a name for himself. Jack’s greatest strength is his natural finesse and his stamina rather than his fighting technique which still needs a great deal of refining. His small size works both with and against him, he isn’t physically as strong, but he is a much harder target to hit. As much as his stubbornness often works against him, his hard head is often what has allowed him to face opponents much stronger, larger, and more experienced than he is... and sometime come out on top. He is skilled with one handed swords, which is the first weapon he’s trained with, but he seems to also have an innate affinity with spears, axes, and two handed swords and has been known to get pretty creative in a fight. Just watch out for his feet, he is a highly qualified shin kicker and is able to utilize his feet just as well as his hands in battle. He is highly adaptive during combat... however, the most terrifying aspect of Jack as a fighter is how quickly he can learn while in battle. While it should be noted he isn’t a mimic, he is capable of picking up the fundamental basics of a technique by simply observing the technique. Likewise, he has an innate affinity for magic, though due to his lack of education in the magical arts, he is unable to actively understand magic through observation. Mean geez, most of the magic in Tottaus requires years of study, do you think he has time for that?
Most of Jack’s personal magic falls in the realm of command magic, which has various effects based on the act of giving commands and he is able to link magical power through formations. Though... this means that people actually have to listen to a 16 year old to reap the benefits of his innate talent... that isn’t actually all that smart now is it? However, because of his affinity for command magic among other things, he has earned his spot in Theater Vancoor as the Sergeant of the Acht squad. Which... only comprises of him, but hey, it means he isn’t an utter embarrassment to the warrior’s guild and that he actually has a bit of ambition. He is used to fighting in a group, in fact he is stronger for it... well as long as people do what they’re told.
Power - Weapon
Name: Iron Edge
Description: An iron weapon given to him by his sister to take the Knight Trials with. It isn’t the best quality, but, it is the thought that counts... it is durable enough that it hasn’t failed Jack yet! Money well spent. It is a one handed sword that has a comfortable grip... and a few notches in it by now. Do you know how much it costs to replace a sword? Jack’s sword doesn’t have any special properties other than the fact it is a sword. Those are pretty special right?
Damage Type: Physical
Variant: None
Power - Weapon
Name: Arbitrator
Description: A legendary sword, which once belonged to Jack's father, Cairn. Known as the decision maker’s sword, Jack is still a bit too stubborn and a bit too inexperienced to wield this effectively. It is said to be stronger than the weapons of the four spirits, the elementals. The true power of Arbitrator is obscured by the “evil” that it is touched by. While it doesn’t bestow any special powers, as is upon its wielder, this five foot blade binds to the one who wields the sword, its properties changing according to the user’s style. In Jack’s case, should he become experienced enough to wield Arbitrator, the blade, despite its length can be used in one hand. This is as opposed to his father, who wielded Arbitrator as a two handed sword. The changed property in this case the weight, or heft of the sword. It is not known what metal the blade is composed of, but it is strong enough to cut through hard dragon scales and dwarven steel. Unbeknownst to Jack, Arbitrator is infected with the magical disease known as Algandars and his unwillingness to use his Father’s blade has more or less saved him from being infected himself. It is possible to purify the “evil” from the previous wielder if the current wielder has demonstrated themselves to be aligned with the natural or cosmic order of the world. Only in the name of restoring “order” can Arbitrator be safely used.
Damage Type: Physical
Variant: Algandars
Description: Arbitrator is infected with a mystical magical plague known as Algandars as it was used to disrupt and defy the cosmic order of Tottaus as it was used to slay the Water Dragon. Algandars has only been known to infect Humans and Light Elves. It is a disease born from the disruption of the natural order, chaos, and has no known cure in the world of Tottaus... there might be one elsewhere. In Humans, Algandars causes paranoia and increases the strength of the individual as the infected slowly succumb to violence and madness. Strength may double at the height of “madness”. In Light Elves, who are effectively immortal, Algandars causes death and prevents soul magic from being used to continue their cycle of rebirth by wrapping the victim in a cocoon. Those who wield Arbitrator as a weapon will become infected with Algandars if the blade hasn’t been purified first. If killed with the weapon, a player’s character trophy will become entombed within a cocoon, creating a strong barrier that needs be broken before the character can be revived which takes at least two posts to cut through. Notably it can only be cut through with strong magic or strong weapons, not some stupid iron weapon. When revived, if the character is one of the species vulnerable to the plague, then they are afflicted with Algandars. Notably, this is a disease born of chaos, the character may also be infected if they are closely related to either species... as in either similar to that of humans or light elves. Once a player is infected by Algandars, the disease may spread to those deemed harmful to the “natural order”, but whether or not this occurs is a power that belongs solely to the RP staff.
Damage Type: Mental
Power - Ability
Name: Even if I’m not a Knight anymore!
Description: As much trouble Jack causes to those around him... mean he even starts fights... he has a surprisingly fierce loyal streak that results in him often picking fights on someone’s behalf. He isn’t a knight anymore, half the time he barely even acts like one. Still, he has been half trained to fight like one. Sometimes, even if you don’t want to you have to follow orders... hey, it is true even in Theater Vancoor. In a squad, you have to be able to rely on everyone doing their job even if it sucks. If given a command that notably, Jack actually follows, he will gain an innate base increase of 15% to his strength, his speed, and his defenses as long as he is actively following orders given to him. Jack is naturally a bit of an unfocused fighter, he actually does better either following orders or while actively giving orders on the account that it focuses him as a person. That and he performs better under stress, which if you scream commands at him, well... do you know how stressful that is? Team work is surprisingly important and that is a lesson Jack has had to learn twice. In case the first time wasn’t enough.
Damage Type: N/A
Variant: Knights of the Same Brigade are as Family!
Description: Surprisingly enough, there were a few parts in the Radiata Knight’s Charter that seems to really have resonated with Jack... even though he sort of got kicked out of the Knights. Jack is surprisingly tough, he’s taken multiple blows from a blood orc, the strongest of the fairy races and not only survived, but got right back up again. He values those under his command, sometimes even considers them family. If a character under his command is about to receive a fatal blow and Jack is nearby, he is able to take the otherwise fatal blow for a friend. While this sounds heroic, Jack is just unnaturally lucky, and notably extremely stubborn. It is the thought that counts right? If he takes the fatal blow for a friend, he will survive it if only barely. He’s shielding someone with his body, he doesn’t exactly have much of a choice in how he takes the blow. He is capable of non-combat actions including command magic, but will faint or worse if he actively tries to engage in combat afterwards due to the injuries he naturally would sustain. Any more damage inflicted upon him after his little batch of heroics will, depending on the nature of the damage, render him unconscious or will prove to be fatal unless he is healed. Also he loses all bonuses he naturally receives that would otherwise potentially mitigate the damage done to him... he is taking what would be a fatal blow for someone else.
Damage Type: N/A
Variant: True Strength is...?
Description: “You lack real strength, because you wield your sword only for yourself. Remember this: only those who fight to protect another are able to acquire true strength.” Jack is just starting to understand the chief’s words. He isn’t a pushover... but, he isn’t really all that strong either. However, Jack has shown that when under pressure, when his friends are in trouble, he is able to pull himself together, showcasing his potential. When protecting an ally who is under his command, a friend, Jack innately pushes his limits to keep them out of harm’s way. Naturally only one ally under his command can be subjected to this treatment at a time. As a result Jack receives a base increase of 30% to his strength, speed, and defense capabilities as he refuses to let those that he has deemed important to him...well down. Again.
Damage Type: N/A
Power - Ability
Name: ”Potential”
Description: While he isn’t exactly a prodigy by any means, Jack has a great deal of martial potential... and surprisingly enough he also seems to have some intuitive understanding of magic, though he is generally more interesting in getting up close and personal. He has a knack for figuring out how martial techniques function... and he has absolutely no clue what a gift this is. He is capable of learning a technique from another player character simply by watching them perform it... as long as he is physically able to utilize it without I don’t know breaking his spine. Jack is only human, if the technique or skill he is trying to learn is beyond the capabilities of a human it is definitely beyond him... even if he tries. The more he sees a specific technique performed, the better his understanding becomes of it. If he sees a technique performed in front of him, or against him twenty five or more times, Jack may, through the power of update, be able to permanently add the skill to his own power list. Notably, this applies to martial skills, not magical or super natural techniques.
Damage Type: N/A
Variant: Yeah, Yeah, I get it!
Description: As mentioned above, Jack also is surprisingly capable in the realm of magic, he is extremely skilled at using command magic.Despite this, he isn’t able to understand magic just from observing it... oh no. You see, magic in Jack’s world generally takes years of study to master... years which he doesn’t have and that makes his use of command magic all that more impressive. He doesn’t really understand the underlying principles of magic, at least from his world. As a result he is wholly unequipped to make the observations necessary to begin to understand how magical techniques function. The potential is still there and he can be taught.... He is able to learn magical techniques from a mentor if they give him the basics to work with... of course there are just some forms of magic he isn’t going to understand... ever. It takes him ten posts of intense work to begin to understand the theory... and only then after twenty five posts of seeing a magical technique with the understanding principles will he likely be able to master it. Jack may, through the power of update, be able to permanently add the skill to his own power list if he meets the appropriate requirements.
Damage Type: N/A
Variant: Oh that is just too cool!
Description: What, you thought that he was just going to stand around taking notes on techniques that are just way too cool to talk about? Oh no. If he’s seen a martial technique, then he’s able to mimic it to a degree... it just might not be successful and in no way is he a master of it, but ha that won’t stop him. Likewise, if he understands the basic principles behind a magical technique, you can bet your house on it that Jack isn’t going to wait until he fully understands or is used to the magic before trying out what he’s been told. Jack is a kinetic learner, he learns by doing, less so by listening and imitation is the highest form of flattery, haven’t you heard? However, as mentioned before, while he can mimic techniques and even magic if he knows the basic principle behind it... well... he isn’t exactly good at it. If the techniques’ primary purpose is to cause damage, he will only... if he manages to land a blow with it, deal 1/4th of the original’s power. Same with magic. Likewise, if there is an effect caused by the technique or magic, it will last at most one post. He shares cooldown with the original technique, regardless of how it works out... mean, he could just fail to perform it correctly. There is a chance that Jack will mess up the martial or magical technique power he is trying to emulate. However, practice makes perfect and every time Jack attempts to use a technique, the number of posts required for him to learn it drops by one. When in a thread, he can only choose one technique or magical power that he has seen or has been taught about to try to emulate. He can only switch his ... enthusiasm when he isn’t fighting for his life and thus only one technique at a time can “practiced” (Or more accurately pseudo stolen).
Damage Type: N/A
Power - Ability
Name: Aptitude
Description: Other than being strangely lucky, Jack, hasn’t developed any special abilities... well as far as he is aware of and as he is still a student in terms of fighting... he has a tendency to emulate stronger fighters. Jack is able to emulate the strengths and weakness of other player characters by learning innate passive abilities from them... which he does by fighting alongside them. As long as an innate passive ability is not locked by racial restrictions, Jack may begin to emulate another player character’s fighting style and thus begin to imitate traits or innate abilities specific to other characters. While naturally he is unable to emulate racial abilities, he is able to pick up super natural abilities as a result of his innate magical talents. After fighting with or against a player character for a total of thirty posts, Jack is able to fully emulate an innate ability. However, because he is emulating another character, he may only imitate one innate passive ability at a time, though he may “switch out” an ability as long as he isn’t in combat. You know when he isn’t getting his ass handed to him. If the character Jack is emulating is in a link with him, each post in combat counts as two for the sake of learning as he is actively fighting alongside the other character. Mean what better way to learn that to throw a few punches right?
Damage Type: N/A
Variant: Rivalry
Description: If you thought that Jack is a little punk emulating your character’s innate ability, well you were right, he is a punk kid who really needs to be put in his place. If Jack learns an innate ability from a player character, if that same character remains in a link for fifteen posts while Jack is actively emulating them, then the player character can upgrade the imitated ability with approval from RP staff. Even if Jack’s antics don’t cause a bit of a problem with the player character and cause an actual rivalry, his own understanding transfers through the link to reinforce and lends insight in regards to the ability.
Damage Type: N/A
Variant: Reborn under a Lucky Star?
Description: Jack has his own innate passive ability. He is in fact extraordinarily lucky... or unlucky, point is his special ability is the fact he was born under a lucky star. Yeah, no, that isn’t particularly helpful now is it? Links work... well multiple ways as does the wonders of learning, and apparently Jack’s luck can also rub off on other people... though he does need some for himself. Though it should be noted that Luck Plus has a different effect on Jack than on other player characters (Variant: Knights of the Same Brigade are as Family!). Once a battle, Luck plus can be activated to negate a negative “status” effect on a player character that isn’t trophification, instant death, or Algandars. Rather, Luck Plus will negate one instance in which the character with this ability would have been negatively affected by an ailment... which they effectively avoid thanks to lady luck smiling down on them. There is a requirement to learn Luck Plus, the character has to have been in a link with Jack for at least 15 posts, after which the roleplayer can add Luck Plus as an ability to the character that has met these requirements.

Command Magic
Command magic has comes in three distinct forms, commands, songs, and links. It isn’t a well understood form of magic, and aptitude with it seems to vary wildly among those that utilize it. Jack is naturally suited to utilizing command magic. While he’s cocky, he is both driven and confident... and has a strong protective streak. For better or for worse, he has a knack for dragging out the potential in others... if only because he can be utterly infuriating. Commands, are very simply that... orders. They compel others to action and requires quite a bit of influence. Often they are learned from scrolls, tactics manuscripts or from other individuals who have an idea of battlefield strategy. Commands are the basis for command magic, although, very few commands have a noticeable effect, the level of compulsion wholly dependent on the individual. One can think of them as a force of authority... or in Jack’s case, more or less the force of his personality. Jack’s own commands aren’t... compelling, he can’t actually force anyone to listen to him that actually goes against the principles of command. Despite his run away mouth has shown to have the ability to intone exact instructions. Even telling someone to attack THAT enemy, it will always be known which individual he is commanding to attack which enemy, he just lacks the experience to make his commands compelling. As mentioned before, commands are the basis of command magic, there is power in yielding and respect... the latter of which Jack is arguably unable to generate. By responding to a command, the individual becomes responsive to stronger forms of command magic and thus Jack’s magic. He is still young, at most he can only exert influence in this manner over three other player characters and the moment a command is disobeyed... well that is the moment that any effects Jack’s command has on the individual stops. Command magic only works on those willing and those able to trust the wielder with decisions.
Songs
Songs can be described as influence, emotion... understanding. In essence, songs are advanced commands that have an outward effect on friends. They’re often created through understanding of stories, tales... sometimes even literal songs. Songs are... not a well understood aspect of command magic, even less so. They manifest energy from the spirit when given and spring forth from the user of command magic. It requires a bond even temporary to work. The user manifest that understanding or intuition of a story and projects it, using natural innate magic to create the effect. As it is magic based on an interpretation and condensed communication, that bond or line of correspondence has to be established... which it is through a chain of command. By responding to basic command magic, the targets, become receptive to songs as they’re actively open to the commander or receptive because there is a level of connection that basic command magic creates. As Jack is still rather inexperienced, he is able to only influence player characters who have actively responded to his commands. Any continuing effects created by songs will dissipate the moment the connection or rather Jack’s commands are broken or aren’t followed. As mentioned before, Songs are created by stories that resound with Jack, that he understands and understands. He is capable of learning or creating new songs from stories... and even experiences whether or not they are his or others. Any new Songs created must be done in character and approved by RP staff.Links
Links are perhaps even more advanced than Songs. They can be described as formations, but more accurately, a link is a chain of bonds that is centered on the user of command magic. While Links can provide traditional strategical value, they are mostly used due to the benefits it grants a group of characters. Links are, as mentioned, bonds, energy or magic freely flows throughout the link and as does command magic. Even by those untrained, links can be formed with any character as links also bond characters together with Jack as the core. As a result, anyone in a link with Jack will naturally be considered under the influence of command magic, because... Jack is not only able to give commands non verbally, but is non verbally providing the information that allows a link to form. Links are a powerful, but more restrictive form of command magic... they generate magical energy from the group as a whole with the commander, Jack directing the flow of the energy. Certain formations, forms, shapes have natural magic symbology in the world of Tottaus... which amplifies the use of command magic. Links require three to four player characters to form with Jack as the core of the formation, though links can be formed with NPCs. The minimum number of characters, either NPCs or player characters required to form a link is three with Jack included in the count. Certain actions will naturally break the Link because the power in links comes from natural magic symbology and from coordination. Universally, should Jack in the link become afflicted with a status effect, the link will break. Likewise, any character afflicted with a status aliment will break from the link, if this causes the number of individuals linked to fall below three, the link will be broken. Should a member of the link perform a restricted action, the link will become broken. A broken link will rebound onto Jack, stunning him for a post. Jack will learn a new link for every 10 posts he remains in a link, though they will have to be approved by RP staff.Power - Technique
Name: Circle Song
Description: A basic song learned from a children’s book detailing how all will be well if only everyone stands in a circle and stares at the full moon. It might sounds silly, but it is a comforting story that utilizes the natural magic symbology of a circle. This song uses nostalgia and childhood comfort to soothe the wounds of those under Jack’s command. Silly as it sounds, this song relieves pains from wounds and even will heal smaller injuries, restoring approximately 20% of health to those that feel the song. Jack can only use Circle song every three posts.

Power - Technique
Name: Wave Link
Description: Allies follow the leader's movements and attack the foe in a wave-like formation which has several effects. The movement speed of all allies increases by 20% including the leader... this is due in part to symbology of a wave. However, more notably, when the leader attacks... and any allies after, they are propelled fifteen feet backwards out of harm’s way. This strange phenomena is once more due to the wave structure of the link, which is cyclical in nature particularly in the sense of the ocean’s waves. While the height of a wave is a danger in regards to the ocean, it is the speed at which the water crashes down onto an individual that poses the greater threat... which is why the link empowers the reflexes and natural speed of the allies, emulating one of the more dangerous aspects of a the ocean’s waves... the constant pressure of water and the speed at which the wave crashes into the foes. The Wave Link has a few restrictions. The first of which, is that it requires that the posting order of the link members not be broken. Post order can be broken by other posts, but a link member cannot post before or after another link member... the order within the link itself must be preserved. Secondly, all techniques used must deal damage, the wave link is an offensive link. As it is an offensive link, if the leader, Jack, attacks, all members of the link must attempt to deal damage or the link will break. Allies may respond however they desire otherwise.

final smash
Final Smash: Book of Power: Command Magic
Description: A book detailing the proper use and precaution when utilizing extremely powerful attacks while in combat to avoid friendly casualties. From this book, Jack has learned the command magic required to draw out the power of those under his leadership. Utilizing his own energy, he is able to transfer his final smash capabilities to an individual actively under his command, allowing them to use their final smash even if they fail to meet the requirements in which to utilize such a powerful attack at the time. Notably, this final smash only works on a willing target that has been actively acting on Jack’s commands prior to the events leading to the circumstances in which Jack can utilize this particular command. However, as it is Jack’s command magic that allows this final smash, he is able to dictate through his magic several parameters of the use of a final smash. Likewise, any restrictions on the Final smash are negated through the power of command magic. He is able to designate the target of the final smash and being learned in the manner of drawing out these powerful attacks, final smashes even if they normally would, will not negatively affect other allies under his command. The final smash that results from the command magic does not count as the user’s final smash, but as Jack’s, allowing them to use their final smash under the proper conditions in a thread if such an event occurs.
