[ BGM: The Dark Rule of Bowser ]
The Mushroom Kingdom... A peaceful land led by the ever gentle Princess Peach, kept (mostly) free of villainy and treachery thanks to a pair of stalwart brothers, Mario and Luigi, plus their friends now and then. But constantly standing in their way is the notoriously evil King Bowser, the loud and proud king of the Koopas, whose constant attempts to kidnap the princess and usurp the kingdom are always foiled by the Bros. However, Bowser was not the only evil known to this land, and soon enough a new threat would emerge. Mario's constant meddling in Bowser's plans would draw the Koopa King's ire deeper and deeper, and this deep hatred would awaken an ancient evil, a source of power that would claim Bowser, granting him immense power. The pride and ambition that once shone brightly in his eyes was replaced by an evil haze, now seeking to lay waste to the Bros and claim the Kingdom for himself.
Months have passed since Bowser's attack. The once peaceful landscape of the Mushroom Kingdom is now decaying beneath a gloomy sky of stormclouds, casting the land into a state of darkness. The denizens of the outskirts have turned feral, attacking anything that moves, and Bowser's forces terrorize the few remaining territories of civilization, imprisoning anyone who resists. Mario has vanished, Luigi is nowhere to be seen, Princess Peach is captured once more, and the citizens of the Mushroom Kingdom live in fear of their new overlord. As the corruption creeps, Bowser rules, and the people fear for their lives, the Mushroom Kingdom is given a new name...

Journey across the desolate landscape of Bowser's Empire, Fight against whoever stands in your way, Help those that need it, Survive in this strange new world, or maybe even Join your power to a greater force. Whatever you do though.... Try not to Die...
Who knows, perhaps there is more to this story than you can see. There may be more out there than just Bowser's Empire, but you won't find out until you tear down the tyrant and dispel his new power...
