Seemingly from nowhere a mysterious fog fills the surrounding area. Suddenly you begin to hear unsettling organ music faintly from the fog. As the music slowly grows louder, the fog becomes thicker. You turn around to see that a portal of purple and lime green has appeared behind you. Within the portal is the most bizarre yet alluring circus you've ever seen with it's partially rusted rides and tattered cloth tents. Standing in the center of the walkway directly in front of the portal is a wild looking man in a ringleader's outfit complete with walking cane who motions you in.

Welcome to the Nightmare Carnival!
What is the Nightmare Carnival?
Just as many video games have optional side missions or entire features that are not directly connected with the overall experience. We can see many examples such as the Battle arenas in Pokemon, Mini games in Kirby, or side quests in RPGs. These features can enhance your enjoyment of a game but aren't a required portion of it. That is what the Nightmare Carnival is for the main RP on this site. Here you can play games, compete against your fellow RPer or just showcase how awesome your character is. It's purely optional but doing so may make your experience greater!
Why would I want to participate?
Excellent Question. Why would you want to post and use your brain even more than you are already needing to for the main rp? Well hopefully you joined the RP to have fun and I intend to make these side missions fun. There's also something that can be said about practicing your writing skills. The more you write the better you become at it. However if none of that interests you...participating and doing well in these will give you additional rewards that can be taken over to the main RP to enhance your character or temporarily make your life easier.
What kind of rewards are we talking about here?
It honestly just sort of depends on the game and the level of difficulty. It could be something as simple as enough gold to buy a vulenary from Anna's shop. It could be a special weapon or one-use item. It could be a temporary stat booster for tricky situations. There's even talk of Phoenix Feathers, additional PERMANENT ability slots for your characters and even pets/pokemon. Again, this all depends on the game/event in question.
Tell me more about these events.
Just like in a carnival or fair, there are certain events going on at certain times. In the Nightmare Carnival it shall (more than likely) be one event going on at a time with a definite ending point. Games may happen multiple times or it could be a one time only ordeal. The rules will be clearly stated at the beginning, though they CAN change (but not without the change being announced.... gotta keep people on their toes.) The win scenario (as well as lose scenarios) and the prize will be clearly stated at the beginning. Signing up or posting in the event thread means that you agree to abide by the rules of the game even if it's something that may be against the rules of the main RP... but we'll get to that much later.
No no, hold on there slick. You said against the rules of the main RP??
Yes. Some games I will allow you to godmod for the fun of it. Some games it will be assumed that all attacks or touches actually make contact with the intended person. Some games there will be instant death and there's nothing you can do about it. However these things will be clearly defined by Ulysses the Ringleader in the opening post of the event.
Wait...DIE??
Yes I thought you might get stuck on that one. There will be certain times when "death" must happen to keep the game interesting or different... or to keep up the suspense. When you "die" in the Nightmare Carnival you get turned into a trophy and you cannot post again in that thread. Once that game is over your character will return to its original state and may continue playing games (or if we have two running simultaneously, the "death" only occurs for the one game in question and not the other.) AGAIN... I must stress that this will be very clearly defined in the rules and introduction to the game.
I hope you have fun in the carnival! (your characters don't have to post in here. I just left it unlocked so that people can ask questions if they have any.)
